I searched all the usual places for a stylish rug of these dimensions--Target, Kohl's, JCPenney, Walmart, Sam's Club, Gordman's, Bed Bath & Beyond, and even a couple of others I cannot recall. First of all, the selection in retail stores tends to be very weak. Apparently, only grandmas or people lacking of taste shop in brick and mortar, as I only found hideous rugs with no pizazz whatsoever. Second, the prices in retail stores are exorbitant! A rug of these dimensions generally sells for twice the price of this rug. Seriously. Hence, I did have some concerns regarding quality before I received the delivery from Amazon. However, once I received it, I very pleasantly surprised. It is great quality, in my opinion. The pile is quite low, but I don't have any problems with that. I just wanted a rug with a little flair that was of decent quality. This one meets those requirements. There are only 2 minor drawbacks of this rug, but they are not big enough for me to ding the rating. First, after I unrolled the rug when it arrived, it took a good week or so on the floor before all the perma-creases flattened out. Now, you wouldn't even know the rug was ever rolled up. It is perfectly flat. Second, when we first placed the rug in our mudroom, the whole room smelled of plastic. Yes, this is an olefin rug. That is a fancy name for plastic fibers. Don't panic. Virtually all carpet is made from plastic, too. People just don't realize it. Anyway, the stink does go away in a few days. We don't smell anything anymore. For the money, I cannot imagine ever finding a better rug than this one.I put this rug in the front entrance of my place, and my girlfriend jokingly accused me of going 'Martha Stewart' on the house. This item is a great value; the colors are nice, it is low maintenance, and comes with Prime shipping! Caveats: (1) this rug is fairly thin. I think it is perfect in high traffic areas, but may not be awesome for a formal living room, etc. (2) Not all the colored squares are solid; some have a tweedy texture to them that isn't entirely obvious from the picture. The picture isn't misleading, but take a close look and you'll see what I mean. (3) Other reviewers report that it doesn't move on hardwood floors, but mine does a bit. If you have dogs, it may need a backing to keep in place; I'm pretty sure humans won't displace it.I'm so happy with this item I am considering buying another as a backup; the price point of this item is unbelievable. This rug is nice quality for the price. I only gave it a four because the colors are a little off. The lighter squares appear more of a light ivory color in the pictures, which gives it a little more of a dramatic appearance, but they are actually a darker tan. Also, one side of the rug wouldn't lay flat so I had to place heavy boxes on it for 24 hrs, which fixed it. All in all, the rug is still very pretty and I would buy it again for the same price, despite the color difference. We bought this to place over a small patch of existing wall-to-wall light colored wool carpet in front of a brick fireplace hearth (electric fireplace). It’s true purpose is to cover a carpet stain which resists all attempts to get rid of it. This item actually looks quite nice material-wise and the colors are not at all garish. It came folded in a large box, not rolled as some others have indicated. It laid out flat with no creases. Just what we wanted. If doesn’t feel cheap, or have a polypropylene “waxy” feel.I ordered this HOME DYNAMIX ROYALTY AREA RUG to use in my home office. It arrived rolled and carefully packaged -- when I unrolled it and placed it on the floor it settled beautifully (no odd wrinkles to contend with). The colors are actually more striking than they appear in the picture (burgundy, black, and tan are the primary colors) -- some of the squares are "tweedy," but most are solid color. The black border is very nice and gives the rug good definition. The rug has a mesh-like backing which makes it slip-proof -- I'm using it on a hardwood floor and it doesn't move at all (no need for a pad or a liner).I definitely recommend this for a quick and inexpensive update to any room in your home. I can't say how long it will last (I've only had it since yesterday!), but it's hard to add this much color to a room for so little money. For the price, this is a wonderful rug (I got the 8x10 with multi color squares.) You will want to use some carpet tape or tack it down with heavy duty staples and pull firmly so that you get out any creases. Once you do that it looks gorgeous and like it is much more expensive than it actually is. Very stylish.I can't speak to the durability because I've only had it for a month, but I'm sure liking it so far. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that you can see that it's not quite as thick as a more expensive rug.UPDATE: Changing my review to 5 stars because, over a year later, the rug still looks great. It is wearing well and I'm very pleased. Any spills have cleaned up off of it nicely and it seems like it'd going to really last. A great bargain for a really nice looking and durable rug.The other reviewers are right when they say that the colors in real life are darker than those in the picture. It looks better in person and the picture doesn't do it justice. This rug isn't really thick but it's for my kitchen and I refuse to spend a fortune on a rug that's going to get spilled on all the time. So, I got this one and I'm glad I did because it looks like I paid WAY MORE than what I actually paid for this. The colors are very RICH looking and would easily conceal heavy traffic or even a few drips of "stuff" in the kitchen here and there. It's also very soft when you feel it with your fingers. I'd definitely buy this one again for sure! The rug dimensions and colors are exactly as advertised. The rug was rolled from the back then secured by heavy plastic for shipping purposes. After removing the plastic, the rug was unrolled and it laid perfectly on the floor, albeit with a few minimal roll marks visible. The colors are vibrant and as noted above, the dimensions are exact. The only con I can note, is the rug is not quite as thick as I would have wanted but is soft and is a nice addition to the room it adorns.Very nice. Paid $105. I wouldn't pay more than that.We love this rug.
